Talbot County, MD - The Talbot County Sheriff's Office, Criminal Investigations Division, has arrested a Talbot County man on charges stemming from a November 2025 investigation involving physical abuse of his 8-day-old child.

Shayan A. Latif, 30, of Queen Anne, Maryland, has been charged with First Degree Child Abuse, Second Degree Child Abuse, First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and Child Neglect.

On November 19, 2025, the Talbot County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division initiated an investigation into the physical abuse of an 8-day-old child. Investigators learned Shayan Latif was awakened by his 8-day-old child around 5 a.m. and noticed the child's head was swollen and the child was lethargic.

Latif did not call emergency services and instead drove with his child to the emergency room at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton. Doctors examined the child and discovered multiple injuries consistent with abuse. The child was then transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for more advanced care.

Over the ensuing months, investigators conducted dozens of interviews, reviewed electronic data, developed a timeline, and consulted with experts from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Latif was identified as the person responsible for the child's injuries.

In June 2026, investigators applied to the Talbot County District Court Commissioner for criminal charges and received an arrest warrant for Latif, charging him with the above-listed crimes. On July 9, 2026, investigators arrested Latif on the active District Court arrest warrant.

He was transported to the Talbot County Central Booking Facility, where he was held without bond after an initial appearance with the District Court Commissioner.

On July 10, 2026, Latif had a bail review before a judge in Talbot County District Court and was ordered held without bond.

The Talbot County Sheriff's Office, Criminal Investigations Division, was assisted in this investigation by the Talbot County Department of Social Services, the Talbot County State's Attorney's Office, the Cambridge Police Department, the Talbot County Sheriff's Office, Patrol Division, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
