State of VA - A Sandston man was sentenced to five years and five months in prison for illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Brandon Rashaad Hill, 31, was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Robert E. Payne.

The case began on Jan. 26 at a North Chesterfield gas station. A woman there asked someone to call 911 and report that she had been kidnapped.

Chesterfield County Police responded and found the woman with Hill. When an officer tried to detain him, Hill pulled away and jumped over a fruit stand near the exit.

A handgun fell from his waistband as he jumped the stand. Hill ran from the gas station but was caught by other officers who arrived at the scene.

Hill is barred from owning firearms or ammunition because of his felony record. He has two prior convictions for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Hill was released from prison on Feb. 28, 2025, after his most recent prior conviction. He violated the terms of his supervised release and was sent back to prison.

He was released again on Oct. 8, 2025. He was still on supervised release when he was arrested on Jan. 26.

The announcement was made by Theophani K. Stamos, First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Anthony A. Spotswood, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF Washington Field Division. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Albert Flores Jr. and John C. Blanchard prosecuted the case, along with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremiah Johansen of the Virginia Attorney General's Office.
