Rubio to Host Global Summit on Rising Political Terrorism
National News - Secretary of State Marco Rubio will host a major international meeting on July 16, 2026 focused on a growing threat: far-left political terrorism. The event, called the Ministerial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism, will bring together government leaders from around the world.
The goal is simple. Countries want to strengthen their defenses and close gaps that terrorist groups have been exploiting.
According to the State Department, far-left political terrorism has been on the rise. Violent acts tied to this movement have shown up across the Western Hemisphere, Europe, Asia, and beyond.
Officials say these attacks aren't random. They describe a deliberate strategy aimed at destabilizing free societies by targeting political and economic systems. That includes attacks on private citizens, government officials, police, businesses, and critical infrastructure worldwide.
The State Department says this threat has often been overlooked by the international community. For years, it remained underestimated and under-resourced despite the danger it poses.
The United States has already taken steps to push back. Since November 2025, four violent far-left groups have been designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations and Specially Designated Global Terrorists.
Those groups are Antifa Ost, the Informal Anarchist Federation/International Revolutionary Front, Armed Proletarian Justice, and Revolutionary Class Self-Defense.
The government is also offering a reward of up to $10 million. That money is for information that helps disrupt the financial networks behind these four groups.
Cooperation with other countries has been ramping up too. In May 2026, the U.S. hosted its first Counterterrorism Law Enforcement Workshop. Fourteen countries sent law enforcement and counterterrorism professionals to share best practices over a two-day session.
This week's Ministerial builds on that momentum. Partners from the Western Hemisphere, Europe, and Asia will work on better coordination and information sharing.
Secretary Rubio is expected to stress the importance of working together. Key priorities include tracking violent activity, cutting off terrorist funding, and protecting critical infrastructure.
Officials say the message is clear: this threat doesn't respect borders, and neither will the response.
