Wicomico County, MD - A months-long investigation in Wicomico County ended with a Salisbury man behind bars and a significant amount of drugs and weapons off the streets.

Detectives with the Wicomico County Joint Community Action Team, known as JCAT, opened an investigation into Leander Lewis back in February 2026. They suspected him of distributing and manufacturing controlled dangerous substances in the county.

That investigation came to a head on May 28, 2026. Members of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division, JCAT, and the Sheriff's Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at a home in the 1000 block of South Delano Avenue in Salisbury, Maryland. Lewis was taken into custody as he was leaving the residence when officers arrived.

What they found inside was significant.

Investigators seized a compressed brick of cocaine weighing nearly 286 grams, along with over 83 grams of manufactured crack cocaine and about 49 grams of powder cocaine. That brings the total cocaine and crack cocaine seized to 418.89 grams.

Officers also recovered more than 101 grams of cannabis, $2,318 in cash, and drug manufacturing equipment and paraphernalia.

Two firearms were also found at the home, a SCCY 9mm handgun and a Ruger .380 caliber handgun, along with numerous rounds of ammunition. Two vehicles were also seized as part of the investigation.

Lewis now faces a long list of charges. Those include Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Manufacturing Crack Cocaine, Possession of Drug Manufacturing Equipment, Possession of a Firearm in Relation to a Drug Trafficking Crime, and Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition by a Prohibited Person, among other firearms and drug offenses.

JCAT is a collaborative unit made up of members from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, the Salisbury Police Department, and the Wicomico County State's Attorney's Office. The team continues to conduct proactive drug investigations targeting criminal organizations operating throughout the county.

Funding for this investigation was provided through the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network, which operates under the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention. The network supports law enforcement agencies across the state through intelligence sharing and interagency collaboration.
