Salisbury Man Charged in Fatal Wicomico County Shooting

Wicomico County, MD - On Thursday, September 3, at approximately 8 p.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack responded to a residence on the 400-block of Ethels Way in Salisbury, Maryland for a report of a shooting.

When troopers arrived, they found a woman with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel arrived on scene and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Police say the woman and a man were involved in a verbal argument inside the home when he shot her. He then ran from the residence.

Troopers found him a short time later, hiding under a vehicle, approximately 2 blocks from the crime scene and arrested him without incident.

The suspect is identified as Gage Mitchell, 29, of Salisbury, Maryland.

After consulting with the Office of the State's Attorney in Wicomico County, police charged him with first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, and other firearm related charges.

Mitchell is being held without bond at the Wicomico County Detention Center.

Crime Scene Technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division came to the scene to process evidence. A firearm was recovered.

The Maryland State Police Aviation Command and Criminal Enforcement Division also assisted with the case. Officers and deputies from the Fruitland Police Department, Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, and Salisbury Police Department helped as well.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
