Salisbury Man Convicted in Wicomico County Cocaine Case

Wicomico County, MD - A Salisbury man will now face sentencing after a Wicomico County jury found him guilty on multiple drug charges.

Deonte Lamont Grant, 42, was convicted following a two-day trial in the Circuit Court for Wicomico County. The trial was presided over by the Honorable Kathleen L. Beckstead.

Grant was found guilty on August 26, 2026 of possession with intent to distribute cocaine. He was also convicted of possession of narcotic production equipment and simple possession of cocaine. Two additional counts of possession of drug paraphernalia rounded out the verdict.

Sentencing has not yet been scheduled. The court is waiting on a pre-sentence investigation before moving forward. Grant will stay in custody in the meantime.

The case goes back to January 16, 2026. Detectives with the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division were looking into an alleged armed carjacking at the time. That investigation led them to obtain a search warrant for Grant's home.

Once inside, investigators found a digital scale with white residue in Grant's bedroom. They also found empty plastic sandwich baggies and a bag containing several grams of cocaine. Mail, bank cards, and a Maryland ID connected the items directly to Grant.

Grant later agreed to speak with detectives after waiving his Miranda rights. During that interview, he told investigators he is a drug dealer. He also confirmed the cocaine found in his home belonged to him.

Wicomico County State's Attorney Jamie L. Dykes spoke about the conviction. "Controlled dangerous substance distribution and crimes of violence far too often go hand in hand. My Office will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to identify and vigorously prosecute those who distribute controlled dangerous substances in Wicomico County."

SA Dykes credited the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office for their work on the case. Lead investigator Detective Gilmore was specifically recognized for his efforts. Assistant State's Attorney James Welch was also commended for his handling of the prosecution.
