Sussex County, DE - A Georgetown man is facing serious charges after Delaware State Police say he caused a string of crashes in Seaford Friday evening, leaving one driver seriously injured.

Police have obtained an arrest warrant for 36-year-old Angel Morales-Ortiz on charges including vehicular assault and driving under the influence.

The chain of crashes started around 7:30 p.m. on June 19, 2026, near Old Furnace Road and Middleford Road. Troopers say a Jeep Comanche heading north on Middleford Road turned onto Old Furnace Road and crossed into the wrong lane, sideswiping a Ford F-150 that was stopped at the intersection.

From there, police say the Jeep kept going eastbound on Old Furnace Road at a high speed and racked up several traffic violations along the way. At the Coverdale Road intersection, the Jeep backed into a Toyota Camry before swerving around stopped traffic and continuing on.

The most serious crash happened near Cokesbury Road, where troopers say the Jeep crossed into the westbound lane and hit a Ford Fusion head-on. The Fusion's driver, a 20-year-old Seaford man, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The Camry's driver, a 25-year-old Bishopville, Maryland woman, and her passengers walked away unharmed. The F-150's driver, a 33-year-old Milford man, and his passenger were also uninjured.

When troopers caught up with the Jeep's driver, identified as Morales-Ortiz, they noticed signs that he may have been impaired. He was flown by Delaware State Police Aviation to a hospital with serious injuries of his own.

A search of the Jeep turned up multiple open containers of alcohol, and police learned his driver's license was already suspended. Troopers later got a search warrant for a sample of his blood at the hospital.

Once he's released from the hospital, Morales-Ortiz is expected to face several charges, including:

  • Vehicular Assault First Degree (Felony)
  • Leaving the Scene of a Property Collision Accident - 2 counts
  • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked
  • Multiple Related Traffic Offenses
