Wicomico County, MD - On October 22, 2026, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office pulled over a black Jeep Compass near Stage Road and southbound U.S. Route 13 in Delmar, Maryland.

Deputies identified the driver as Jarell Rodriguez, 35, of Seaford, Delaware. Rodriguez gave deputies his ID when they first walked up to the car.

Deputies then called for a K-9 team from the sheriff's office. When the K-9 team got there, deputies went back to the Jeep and asked Rodriguez to step out.

Rodriguez did not get out of the vehicle, as requested. Instead, he drove off in the Jeep, leading deputies on a pursuit through Delmar, MD.

Deputies chased the Jeep in a marked Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Ford Mustang.

Deputies also laid down Stop Sticks two different times during the chase. Stop Sticks are a tool used to flatten a car's tires so it has to slow down and stop.

After the second time, Rodriguez pulled over to the right side of the road. Deputies took him into custody with no more trouble.

Deputies then checked the area along the path Rodriguez drove when he took off. The Salisbury Police Department's Joint Community Action Team, known as JCAT, came out to help.

A few hundred yards from where the Jeep was first stopped, deputies found a large amount of suspected drugs. Deputies say the way the drugs were packed points to them being meant for sale.

When the bags were counted, there were more than 800 of them. Deputies say each bag held a suspected mix of heroin and fentanyl.

Rodriguez was placed under arrest and charged accordingly. He is charged with possession with intent to distribute a heroin and fentanyl mixture and unlawful distribution of a controlled dangerous substance.

He is also charged with unlawfully bringing a controlled dangerous substance into the state. He faces a charge of fleeing and eluding, along with several traffic violations.

After the arrest, detectives from the sheriff's office and JCAT worked with the Delaware State Police Special Investigations Unit. Together they served a search warrant at Rodriguez's home in Seaford, Delaware.

Delaware State Police detectives found a handgun inside the home. They also found a large amount of suspected heroin and more than $11,000 in cash.

More charges are expected in Delaware. Those charges have not been filed yet.

Currently, Rodriguez is being held on a no bond status.
