Seaford Police Chase Ends in Crash, DUI Arrest
Sussex County, DE - A routine traffic stop in Seaford, Delaware, turned into a high-speed chase late Saturday night, ending with a crash, an injured bystander, and an 18-year-old behind bars.
On May 30, 2026, at around 9:35 p.m., a Seaford Police Department officer spotted a Ford pickup truck traveling eastbound on West Stein Highway with no headlights on. When the officer activated emergency lights, the driver immediately began switching lanes and accelerating at a high rate of speed, instead of pulling over.
The vehicle sped eastbound on Stein Highway before crashing into a Mazda sedan at the intersection of Norman Eskridge Highway and Sussex Highway. Officers on scene checked on the passengers of the Mazda while other officers continued chasing the driver on foot.
The suspect ran toward Beaver Dam Drive, where officers were able to take him into custody without further incident. One passenger from the Mazda was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was identified as Jeremy Mroz, 18, of Millsboro, Delaware. After field sobriety tests were administered, Mroz was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
Mroz faces a serious list of charges, including felony disregarding a police officer signal and first-degree vehicular assault. He is also charged with two counts of criminal mischief, resisting arrest, driving under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury. Additional speed and traffic violations were also filed.
