Small Fire at Hurlock Business Quickly Contained by Firefighters
Hurlock, MD - A small fire broke out Tuesday afternoon at a commercial property in Hurlock, Dorchester County, Maryland, drawing a quick response from local firefighters who had the situation under control in just minutes.
The incident occurred on April 14, 2026, at approximately 2:34 p.m. in the 100 block of Broad Street in Hurlock, Dorchester County, Maryland. The property is described as a one-story commercial building.
Customers at the store were the first to spot the fire. They alerted others, allowing for a swift response before the situation could escalate.
The Hurlock Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene with five firefighters. They brought the fire under control in just six minutes from the time of arrival.
The fire originated at the rear exterior of the building. It was burning inside a white, approximately 50-gallon barrel that contained dry vegetation debris, aluminum cans, and bottles.
The flames caused minor damage to the surrounding area. Firefighters noted slight soot staining on a metal-framed refrigerant unit at the back of the building, along with minor charring to a nearby wood fence.
Property loss estimates were minimal, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office. Damage to the structure was assessed at $200, with no reported loss to contents.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No further details have been released at this time.
