Cambridge, MD - On October 21, 2026, at approximately 1:07 PM, the Rescue Fire Company responded to the 600 block of Yellow Bill Lane in Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland, for a fire inside a three-story townhome. No one was inside the home at the time of the fire.

A neighbor was the one who first noticed the fire. The home had a smoke alarm, and it was working and went off.

When crews arrived, they found a potted plant smoldering in the entryway of the home. That plant is where the fire started.

Ten firefighters answered the call, which stayed at one alarm. They had the fire under control in about 10 minutes.

The townhome also has a fire alarm and sprinkler system. It did not turn on because the fire was so small.

Fire investigators were asked to come out and help find out what caused the plant to smolder. The cause has not been determined yet and is still under investigation. Investigators said they do not suspect foul play.
