Snow Hill, MD - The Town of Snow Hill held its general election on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Voters came out to decide two important local races, and the results have people talking.

Two offices were on the ballot this year. The first was Mayor, where incumbent Janet T. Simpson faced off against challenger Charles (Rob) V. Hall. The second was Eastern District Council, where incumbent Edward S. Lee faced challenger Ethan W. Shockley.

When the polls closed Tuesday night, the Board of Election Supervisors released the unofficial results. In the race for Mayor, Janet T. Simpson came out on top with 222 votes compared to 84 votes for Rob Hall. Simpson, who currently holds the office, appears to be headed toward another term.

The Eastern District Council race is a much tighter story. Challenger Ethan W. Shockley is currently ahead with 76 votes, while incumbent Edward S. Lee is right behind him with 72 votes. That is a difference of just four votes, making this race far from decided.

Here is where things get interesting. There are approximately 35 absentee ballots that were postmarked by or before May 5, 2026, and those votes have not been counted yet.

According to the Town Charter, all but 10 of those absentee ballots, along with any vetted and approved provisional ballots, will be counted on Tuesday, May 12. The remaining 10 absentee ballots are set to be counted on Tuesday, May 26.

Once all ballots are tallied, the Snow Hill Board of Election Supervisors will announce the official results. With only four votes separating the two candidates in the council race, those absentee ballots could absolutely change the outcome.

It is important to remember that everything announced so far is unofficial. No winner has been formally declared in either race, and the full picture will not be clear until the counting process is complete later this month.

Once the official results are certified, the winning candidates will be sworn into office at the Town's regular meeting on June 9, 2026. From that point, they will begin serving two year terms in their respective roles.
