Snow Hill, MD - A Worcester County man is behind bars this morning after an 11-hour standoff with police. The incident followed an alleged assault on an adult woman inside his home.

Robert Keith Anderson, 49, of Snow Hill, Maryland, was taken into custody early this morning.

Anderson faces first- and second-degree assault charges, along with false imprisonment and other related charges. He is being held without bond at the Worcester County Detention Center.

The situation began just after 10:45 p.m. last night. Maryland State Police from the Berlin Barrack were sent to a home in the 4000-block of W. Market Street in Snow Hill, Maryland.

Troopers responded to a reported dispute between Anderson and an adult woman.

The woman, who is not being identified, told police she was physically restrained inside the home. She managed to break free and call 9-1-1 to report what happened. She said Anderson had a firearm and threatened to harm her while she was inside.

When troopers arrived, they tried several times to make contact with Anderson. He refused to respond. Knowing he was armed and had made threats, police set up a perimeter around the home.

Police then called in the Maryland State Police Special Tactical Assault Team Element, known as the STATE Team. Troopers spent hours trying to talk Anderson into leaving the house. They called his cell phone again and again, but he wouldn't budge.

Eventually, police obtained an arrest warrant through the Worcester County District Court. Members of the STATE Team served the warrant and took Anderson into custody without further incident. No shots were fired by Anderson or law enforcement during the standoff.

Several agencies responded to help during the incident. Troopers from the Berlin Barrack, the STATE Team and the Criminal Enforcement Division were on scene. Officers from the Snow Hill Police Department and deputies from the Worcester County Sheriff's Office also assisted.

The case was handled in consultation with the Office of the State's Attorney for Worcester County. Anderson remains in custody as the case moves forward.
