Social Media Threat Against Easton Middle School Not Credible

Talbot County, MD - On August 30, 2026, a concerned citizen contacted the Talbot County Sheriff's Office about a post on TikTok. The post used a trend based on "The Cat in the Hat" and included a vague threatening message aimed at Easton Middle School.

The Sheriff's Office looked into the post right away. Deputies worked with the Talbot County Board of Education, representatives from TikTok, and other law enforcement partners to investigate the matter.

As part of the investigation, deputies traced where the message came from and interviewed the people involved. After that work was done, officials determined the post was not credible.

Investigators found no evidence of an active danger or a real plan to harm students, staff, or the school itself. The Sheriff's Office says keeping students and educational staff safe remains a top priority for the department.
