Talbot County, MD - A routine traffic stop in Talbot County turned into an arrest last week after deputies discovered a Maryland man had two outstanding warrants from Baltimore County.

On May 22, 2026, deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff's Office pulled over a vehicle for a moving violation. After identifying the driver as James Thomas Neal III, 38, of Gwynn Oaks, a records check revealed the warrants.

Baltimore County had issued both warrants against Neal. They charged him with forgery, theft, and failing to appear for a scheduled court hearing.

Deputies placed Neal under arrest at the scene. He was then transported to the Talbot County Central Booking facility for processing.

Neal appeared before a District Court Commissioner for an initial hearing. He was held pending further action by the courts.

Forgery and theft charges in Maryland can carry serious penalties depending on the value involved and the circumstances of the case. A failure to appear charge is added when a defendant misses a required court date, which can result in a judge issuing a bench warrant for their arrest.

Neal's case will now move through the court system. No further details about the underlying Baltimore County cases were released.
