Two Arrested After Disarming and Robbing an Armed Security Guard
State of DE - Two Wilmington men are facing serious charges after Delaware State Police say they attacked an armed hotel security guard and stole his gun. The arrests wrapped up a two-week investigation that stretched into Pennsylvania.
Troopers were called to the Best Night Inn on West Avenue in New Castle, Delaware around 11 p.m. on June 13, 2026. Police say two men approached an armed security guard, physically held him down, and pulled his firearm right out of the holster before running off.
The guard was not hurt during the incident. The suspects sped away in a Nissan Sentra, leaving investigators with a solid lead to chase.
Detectives with the Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit took over the case from there. They eventually identified the two suspects as 19-year-old Donald Shepherd and 18-year-old Sy Aire Wilson, both of Wilmington, Delaware.
With help from the U.S. Marshals Service First State Fugitive Task Force, investigators tracked the getaway car to Brookhaven, Pennsylvania. That lead pointed them toward an apartment on Fairway Road in Newark, where the pair was reportedly staying.
Police secured a search warrant for the apartment. On June 30, the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team helped detectives execute that warrant.
Shepherd and Wilson were both taken into custody without incident. They were transported to Troop 2 for processing.
Shepherd was charged with Robbery Second Degree and Conspiracy Second Degree, both felonies. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Department of Correction on an $18,000 cash bond.
Wilson faces the same two felony charges, Robbery Second Degree and Conspiracy Second Degree. He was also arraigned and committed to the Department of Correction, on a $24,000 cash bond.
