Two Juveniles Charged After ATV Chase in Seaford

Seaford, DE - On August 12, 2026 at approximately 12:43 a.m., a Seaford Police Department officer responded to a private parking lot on Dutton Avenue for two subjects riding off road ATV vehicles.

The officer tried to make contact with the riders. Both individuals fled on their vehicles right away.

Officers followed the vehicles toward the area of Herring Run Road. Both riders then drove into nearby fields in an attempt to get away.

One rider crashed his vehicle in the field a short time later. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Delaware State Police Troop 5 and aviation assisted in the search for the second rider. That rider and vehicle were located soon after and taken into custody as well.

The operator of the crashed vehicle was identified as a 14-year-old juvenile. He was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries and later released to a parent with charges pending.

The operator of the second vehicle was identified as a 16-year-old juvenile. He was also released to a parent with charges pending.

Both off road vehicles were impounded following the chase. Both juveniles face the same set of charges. These include disregarding a police officer signal, a felony, resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and multiple traffic violations.

Both juveniles were arraigned later the same day. They were released to a parent with a pending court date in Sussex County Family Court.

This case is a reminder that off road vehicles are not permitted on public roads or private property without permission. Riders who flee from police, even on ATVs or dirt bikes, can face serious charges.
