US 13 Business in Salisbury Closing Overnight Thursday
Salisbury, MD - Drivers who use S. Salisbury Boulevard in Salisbury, Maryland will need to find another way around on Thursday night. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (SHA) plans to shut down a section of US 13 Business for one night so crews can keep working on a new bridge.
The closure covers US 13 Business (S. Salisbury Boulevard) from E. Carroll Street to E. Main Street. It is part of the ongoing project to replace the US 13 Business bridge over the Wicomico River.
The road will close at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2026. SHA says it will open back up by 6 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, at the latest. Bad weather could change those plans.
While the road is closed, a posted detour will guide drivers around the work area. Traffic on S. Salisbury Boulevard will be sent along E. Main Street, E. Carroll Street and MD 12 (Snow Hill Road).
If you travel through this part of town that night, it is a good idea to leave a little earlier than normal. The detour may add some extra time to your trip.
The work is being done by George & Lynch, Inc. of Dover DE, the contractor hired by SHA.
Crews will set up reflective barrels, temporary traffic signs and electronic message boards to point drivers in the right direction. Flaggers will also be on hand to help move traffic around the project.
SHA is asking drivers to stay alert and pay attention when passing through the work zone.
Speed limits will be lower, and traffic patterns may shift while crews are on site.
Maryland law requires drivers to slow down and move over in work zones. Giving workers space helps keep everyone safe, both the crews on the road and the people driving past them.
