Water Outage Planned July 23 for Ocean Pines, Glen Riddle
Worcester County, MD - Worcester County Public Works crews will be working overnight on July 23, 2026 to upgrade a water service main. That work means a temporary water shutoff for several local neighborhoods.
The shutoff will affect an estimated 773 homes. This includes the Bay Point Plantation and Glen Riddle Sanitary Service Areas, along with a portion of the Ocean Pines Sanitary Service Area.
Water service will be turned off from 11 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, and will be off until 5 a.m. on Friday. That gives crews a six-hour window to complete the upgrade overnight, when most residents are asleep and water use is lowest.
Residents can expect their water to be off for about four to six hours during that window. The affected areas include all of Bay Point Plantation and Glen Riddle, plus a portion of Robinhood Trail. Knight Terrace, Fasse Grange, and Abbey Circle will also be fully included in the shutoff.
If you live in one of these areas, it's a good idea to plan ahead. Fill a pitcher or two of water before bed, just in case you need it during the outage. It's also smart to avoid running laundry or dishwashers late that night.
Once water service comes back on, some residents may notice their water looks a little discolored. This is a normal part of the process after main work like this. Air and sediment can get stirred up in the pipes when service is restored.
If this happens to you, don't worry. Just run your tap for a few minutes and the water should clear up on its own. This flushes out any trapped air or sediment left over from the shutoff.
If your water is still discolored after running it for a while, give the Worcester County Water and Wastewater Division a call. Their number is 410-641-5251. They can help figure out what's going on and get things back to normal.
This kind of maintenance helps keep the county's water system running smoothly for the long haul. A little inconvenience overnight now means fewer water issues down the road. Thanks for your patience while crews get the job done!
