Wicomico County, MD - A longtime member of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office has stepped into retirement. It has been announced that Deputy First Class Bobbi Jo Landing has retired after more than 25 years of serving the people of Wicomico County.

Her work with the county began before she ever wore a deputy's badge. DFC Landing first worked as an Animal Control Officer for Wicomico County.

That background stayed with her for the rest of her career. The Sheriff's Office said her deep knowledge of animals made her a go-to person on calls involving all kinds of animals, even when those calls were outside her normal duties.

After joining the Sheriff's Office, DFC Landing worked as a School Resource Deputy. She also served as a Detective in the Criminal Investigation Division.

Her time in the Schools Division put her in front of many local young people. She taught the DARE program and took part in the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety program. She also served as a mentor to youth in the Explorers Program.

In 2006, DFC Landing moved to the K-9 Division. She went on to spend 20 years working in the K-9 and Patrol Division.

Over those years, she was paired with three K-9 partners named Elon, Rookie, and Ray. The Sheriff's Office said all three stood out in tracking and drug detection.

Her work went beyond patrol and K-9 duties. DFC Landing was a member of both the Crisis Intervention Team and the Hostage Negotiation Team.

On those teams, she answered difficult calls and worked to calm tense situations involving people in crisis. She was also a trained peer-support mentor who was there for her fellow deputies when they needed help.

The Sheriff's Office also noted that she was active in community outreach programs. Those efforts kept her connected to the people she served.

We would like to congratulate DFC Landing on her retirement and thank her for her many years of service to Wicomico County.
