Wilmington Man Arrested on Drug and Gun Charges
State of DE - Delaware State Police have arrested a Wilmington man on multiple felony charges after a months-long investigation into heroin distribution in the city.
Shahir McCoy, 33, of Wilmington, was taken into custody on May 27, 2026, following a search warrant execution at a residence in the 100 block of North Franklin Street. The arrest came without incident.
The investigation began in February 2026 when the Delaware State Police Special Investigations Unit received information that McCoy was selling heroin in Wilmington. Over the following months, detectives observed McCoy conducting multiple drug transactions and traced his activity back to the North Franklin Street address.
When investigators searched the residence, they found approximately 420 bags of suspected heroin, a loaded handgun with additional ammunition, roughly 26 grams of marijuana, digital scales, and other drug-related paraphernalia. Investigators also determined that McCoy has a prior felony conviction, which legally bars him from possessing firearms.
The Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team and the Wilmington Police Department assisted with executing the warrant.
McCoy was taken to Troop 2, where he was charged with a lengthy list of offenses. Those charges include Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity, Possession with the Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity, and Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited Who Also Possesses a Controlled Substance.
He also faces charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited Prior Violent Crime, nine counts of Possession with the Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 1 Quantity, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. All charges are felonies except the paraphernalia charge.
McCoy was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $210,200 cash bond.
