State of DE - A Wilmington mother is heading to prison after being convicted of torturing and abusing her two children over the course of several years.

Alexus Jackson, 29, was sentenced on April 10, 2026, to 15 years in prison, followed by one year of partial confinement and 18 months of probation. As part of her sentence, she is also prohibited from having any contact with her children.

Jackson's conviction came in December 2025, when a jury found her guilty on 13 counts. Those charges included two counts of Child Torture, two counts of Unlawful Imprisonment First Degree, two counts of Felony Interference with Custody, eight counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and one count of Child Abuse Fourth Degree.

The case began in September 2023, when a child walked up to school officials and told them their sibling had been hurt by their mother and would not be coming to school. That moment set everything in motion.

Investigators from the Division of Family Services and the New Castle County Police Department looked into the report and found that the abuse had been going on for years. A warrant was issued for Jackson's arrest, and she turned herself in on February 1, 2024.

Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings spoke about the case following the sentencing.

"The actions committed by the defendant are horrifying beyond measure," Jennings said. "These children showed tremendous courage in reaching out for help - it was their bravery that allowed the Division of Family Services, the New Castle County Police, and our DOJ trial team to ensure that justice was done here."

The children at the center of this case were the ones who made it possible. One of them spoke up at school when it may have been easier to stay quiet. That decision changed everything.

Cases like this are a reminder that children often rely on the adults around them, including teachers, school staff, and community members, to notice when something is wrong. But sometimes, children find the courage to speak up themselves.

Jackson will serve her prison sentence before transitioning to partial confinement and probation. She is not permitted to have any contact with her children going forward.

The New Castle County Police Department and the Delaware Department of Justice handled the investigation and prosecution of this case.
