Woman Fakes 911 Call, Attacks EMTs at Christiana Hospital
State of DE - A New Castle woman is behind bars after police say she called 911 under false pretenses, then assaulted the two EMTs who came to help her.
Delaware State Police arrested 59-year-old Lori Mangini on Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators say she called 911 claiming to have trouble breathing, then attacked the medics who responded once they got her to the hospital.
Troopers were called to Christiana Hospital in Newark around 1:45 p.m. on July 1 after getting a report that two EMTs had been assaulted by a patient. The hospital is located at 4755 Ogletown Stanton Road.
According to police, two EMTs with the Holloway Terrace Fire Company responded to the 200 block of West 9th Street in New Castle for a woman reporting shortness of breath. They treated her and drove her to Christiana Hospital.
Once they arrived, police say the woman suddenly attacked both EMTs. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
During the investigation, troopers identified the woman as Mangini. They learned she blamed emergency medical personnel and hospital staff for the death of a family member.
Investigators say Mangini called 911 specifically to lure first responders to her so she could assault healthcare workers.
Mangini was arrested and taken to Troop 6. She was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court and is being held at the Department of Correction on a $5,500 secured bond.
