Worcester County, MD - A local police union has picked its candidate in the race for Maryland State Senate District 38. On October 24, 2026, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 50 announced it was endorsing Senator Mary Beth Carozza for another term.

Lodge 50 speaks for law enforcement officers who work in Worcester County and nearby communities. The group said it backs elected leaders who understand what police officers face on the job and who stand with the people keeping our neighborhoods safe.

In its announcement, the lodge pointed to Senator Carozza's record during her time in the Maryland General Assembly. The FOP said she has a history of backing police officers, pushing for public safety laws, and speaking up for the families of officers who died while on duty.

One area the lodge highlighted was hiring and keeping officers. Senator Carozza sponsored a bill to expand scholarship options for Maryland police officers and probation agents. She also supported longer eligibility for retirement benefits for retired officers who come back to work.

The FOP also noted her work for the families of fallen officers. She sponsored legislation dealing with death benefits for surviving family members, with the goal of making sure those families get financial support.

On the criminal justice side, the lodge said she has supported bills dealing with organized retail theft, repeat violent offenders, and gun trafficking. The group said these bills targeted crimes that put the public at risk.

Senator Carozza has also backed legislation aimed at false and malicious emergency reports, according to the FOP. These types of calls can put both first responders and the public in danger.

The lodge added that she has voted against proposals it believes could hurt policing. The FOP said those proposals dealt with officer identification, officer safety, and how police agencies work together.

Beyond statewide bills, the FOP said Senator Carozza has supported public safety efforts in Worcester, Wicomico, and Somerset counties. The group said this shows she understands the challenges police face here on the Eastern Shore.

The lodge said police departments across Maryland are dealing with problems with staffing, hiring, keeping officers, and officer safety. Because of that, the FOP said it is important for lawmakers to understand what policing really looks like and to work on real solutions.

The FOP said it looks forward to keeping a strong working relationship with Senator Carozza. The group said that relationship will stay focused on protecting local communities and supporting the law enforcement profession.
