Worcester County Names Jennifer Sills as Interim Chief Academic Officer for Pre-K Through Grade 8
Worcester County, MD - Worcester County Public Schools has a new face in its executive leadership. The district announced this week that Jennifer Sills will serve as Interim Chief Academic Officer for grades pre-kindergarten through eight.
Sills is not new to the district. She has spent more than two decades working within Worcester County Public Schools, building a career that started in the classroom and grew steadily into district leadership.
She joined WCPS in 2003 as a Science Teacher at Snow Hill High School, where she taught for more than a decade. In 2015, she moved into the role of Library Media Specialist at the same school before stepping into a district-wide position in 2018 as Coordinator of Instruction for Science and School Library Programs, a role she has held ever since.
Her time as a teacher left a mark. In 2011, Sills was named Worcester County Teacher of the Year, a recognition that came from her commitment to students and her impact inside the classroom.
Her leadership as Coordinator of Instruction extended well beyond day-to-day duties. She worked to strengthen science instruction across the district and helped build a culture of environmental literacy in schools.
One of her most notable achievements came in 2024. Under her leadership, the WCPS Media Expo earned national recognition from the American Association of School Librarians. The program was one of only 18 library programs in the entire country to receive that honor.
District leadership is confident in the appointment. Annette Wallace spoke highly of Sills and what she brings to the role.
"Jennifer Sills is an exceptional leader with a deep understanding of curriculum, instruction, and student engagement," said Wallace. "We are thrilled to welcome her to the executive team. Her extensive experience, collaborative approach, and commitment to excellence will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen academic outcomes for our students."
In her new role, Sills will oversee curriculum and instruction for elementary and middle school grades. She will work closely with school leaders and teachers to make sure students across the district have access to quality learning opportunities.
For a district that serves students from their earliest years through middle school, having experienced leadership in this position matters. Sills brings both classroom knowledge and district-level experience to the job, a combination that is not always easy to find.
Her path from science teacher to interim chief academic officer reflects years of steady work and a clear focus on what happens for students inside schools. Worcester County families can expect her priorities to stay centered there.
