Worcester County, MD - The Worcester County Board of Education approved two leadership appointments at today's meeting. Melarie Brown was named Coordinator of Professional Learning and Talent Development, and Nicholas Genovesi was named Coordinator of Instruction for Digital Learning, Computer Science, and Technology Education. Both appointments are effective immediately.

Brown returns to Worcester County Public Schools after most recently working at Wor-Wic Community College. She served there as Disability Support Services and Innovation Grant Administrator, overseeing a federal grant and coordinating partnerships across departments.

In that role, Brown also analyzed program outcomes and managed project resources and reporting. She supported professional development and training initiatives as well.

Brown previously spent six years with WCPS. She worked as Community School Liaison at Snow Hill Middle School during the 2024-2025 school year, and before that taught kindergarten at Showell Elementary School from 2019 to 2024.

Brown earned a Doctorate of Educational Leadership from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 2024. Her research focused on how elementary teachers view leadership practices and how those practices affect employee morale.

Genovesi brings more than 15 years of experience in education to his new role. For the past six years, he served as WCPS District Coach of Instructional Technology and Innovation.

In that position, Genovesi led device purchasing and management for the school system. He also helped develop and carry out the district's Technology Strategic Plan, along with instructional technology coaching and professional learning for teachers.

Before moving into his districtwide role, Genovesi taught English at Stephen Decatur Middle School and Pocomoke High School. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator and Apple Learning Coach, and has taken part in Salisbury University's Academy for Leadership in Education.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Annette Wallace shared her thoughts on the appointments. "We are excited to welcome Nick and Melarie into these important leadership roles," she said. "Both bring a strong understanding of teaching and learning along with experiences that align incredibly well with the work ahead. Nick has already been instrumental in advancing technology and digital learning across our school system, and Melarie brings a unique combination of classroom experience, leadership development and a deep understanding of how we support and grow our people. I look forward to seeing the impact they will make for our students and staff across Worcester County."
