The 78th Annual National Hard Crab Derby, one of Maryland's most iconic Labor Day weekend traditions, will take place August 29-31, 2025, in Crisfield, Maryland. Hosted by the Crisfield Area Chamber of Commerce, this event celebrates the region's seafood heritage and maritime traditions.


Known as the "Crab Capital of the World," Crisfield brings together locals and visitors for a weekend of community pride, entertainment, and cherished traditions.  


Event Overview  

The National Hard Crab Derby is a crab-themed festival that offers a range of activities, including crab races, culinary competitions, live entertainment, and much more. This family-friendly event provides an authentic Eastern Shore experience with a schedule packed with exciting highlights.  

Daily Attractions  

  • Live Concert Series  

Enjoy nightly live performances by Tranzfusion (Friday), Smitty & On The Edge (Saturday), and Full Circle Band (Sunday). Concert tickets are available as part of a $50 package, with VIP tables and servers for an upgraded experience.

Family-friendly amusement rides, including a mechanical bull (available Sunday only), will be featured.

Governor's
Cup Crab Races  

Crabs entered for the races will start at the Somers Cove Marina, with crabs available for purchase at $5 donations from the American Legion Post 16 Sons and Auxiliary. The race winner earns the coveted Governor's Cup, named after Maryland native J. Millard Tawes.  


Highlights of the Crab Cooking Contest  

The 61st Annual Crab Cooking Contest will feature entries judged on creativity and culinary skill. Open to chefs and home cooks alike, this contest demonstrates the versatility and flavor of Chesapeake Bay crabs.  


Family Fun at the Festival  

From carnival rides to local crafts, the National Hard Crab Derby offers entertainment for all ages. Guests can also enjoy delicious seafood, live music, and pageantry throughout the weekend.

The celebration concludes with a dazzling fireworks display launched over the Chesapeake Bay, visible from many downtown Crisfield locations.
