4-Year-Old Child Injured from Accidental Shooting in Cordova
Talbot County, MD - Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff's Office responded to an incident involving a gunshot wound on Sunday, January 4, 2026. At approximately 2:20 p.m., authorities arrived at the 30000 block of Skipton Cordova Road in Cordova, Maryland.
According to a preliminary investigation, a two-year-old child residing in the home accessed a firearm and discharged it. The round struck the toddler's four-year-old sibling in the lower leg.
Talbot County paramedics arrived promptly to treat the injured child. As a precaution, medical personnel determined the child needed to be flown to Baltimore for treatment.
The Maryland State Police Aviation Division transported the child to Johns Hopkins Hospital. Reports indicate the injuries are non-life-threatening.
Child Protective Services from the Talbot County Department of Social Services was notified and also responded to the scene.
The Talbot County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the incident. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Sheriff's Office at 410-822-1020.
In light of this event, the Sheriff's Office issued a reminder regarding Maryland gun safety laws. Households with children under the age of 16 are required to keep firearms unloaded and secured unless a minor is under the supervision of an adult aged 18 or older.
