85-Year-Old Man Dies in Kent County Crash
Kent County, MD - An 85-year-old man has died following a three-vehicle crash in Kent County on Wednesday afternoon.
Maryland State Police are investigating the incident, which occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Maryland Route 291 at Maiden Lot Farm Lane.
The deceased has been identified as Charles Ekstrom, 85, of Suddlersville, Maryland. He was the driver of a Toyota Camry and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the preliminary investigation, Ekstrom was driving his Camry westbound on Route 291 when his vehicle crossed the double yellow center line into the eastbound lane. The Camry struck a Chevrolet pickup truck and then collided head-on with a Ram pickup truck.
The 19-year-old male driver of the Ram pickup and his 20-year-old female passenger were transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Route 291 was closed for approximately two hours while authorities investigated the crash. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with the road closure.
The investigation is active and ongoing, led by the Maryland State Police Crash Team.
