Washington DC - On August 8, 2025, President Donald J. Trump welcomed Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to the White House. The leaders signed a joint declaration to establish peace after decades of conflict between their nations. This agreement marks a significant achievement in international diplomacy.

The peace accord seeks to end decades of hostility between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The region has suffered greatly due to prolonged disputes and loss of life. President Trump noted the historical importance of the agreement, stating, "For more than 35 years, Armenia and Azerbaijan have fought a bitter conflict that resulted in tremendous suffering for both nations... Many tried to find a resolution... and they were unsuccessful. With this Accord, we've finally succeeded in making peace."

Alongside the peace agreement, the two leaders signed bilateral economic pacts with the United States. These agreements aim to unlock economic potential in the South Caucasus region, particularly in trade, transit, energy, infrastructure, and technology.

The partnerships are expected to create new opportunities for American businesses and citizens while supporting regional growth and stability.

President Aliyev described the development as a historic milestone for Azerbaijan. "It's a day which will be remembered by the people of Azerbaijan with a feeling of pride and gratitude to President Trump... Within several months, he managed to put an end to conflicts in Asia, in Africa, and now in South Caucasus - what we could not achieve for more than 30 years... We will turn the page of standoff, confrontation, and bloodshed, and provide a bright and safe future for our children," he said.

Prime Minister Pashinyan highlighted the significance of the agreement for the people of Armenia. "Today, we have reached a significant milestone in Armenian and Azerbaijani relations. We are laying a foundation to write a better story than the one we had in the past. This breakthrough would simply not have been possible without President Trump's personal engagement and his resolute commitment to peace," he stated.

President Trump's role as a key figure in brokering the agreement was emphasized by both leaders. The White House noted that this achievement is one of several under President Trump's leadership that have ended long-standing regional disputes.

Past diplomatic efforts include peace agreements between Cambodia and Thailand, Israel and Iran, and Egypt and Ethiopia, among others.

The administration described this latest effort as part of a broader strategy to resolve international tensions and promote a shared vision of peace, prosperity, and success.
