President Donald Trump announced Friday on the Fox & Friends Show that "with a high degree of certainty" the suspect in the murder of Charlie Kirk was in custody.
A press conference followed those words, at 10:05 AM and began with Utah Governor Spencer Cox stating, "Good morning ladies and gentlemen. We got him."
Governor Cox was referring to the suspect who allegedly murdered Charlie Kirk. The suspect has been identified as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old resident of Utah. Robinson's father assisted with turning him in to the authorities.
Officials reported that on the evening of September 11th, a family member of Tyler Robinson contacted a family friend. This individual then reached out to the Washington County Sheriff's Office with information that led to Robinson being taken into custody.
Charlie Kirk was shot while speaking to a crowd gathered in a courtyard at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. On Thursday, the FBI and Utah State officials had released photos and video footage of the person believed responsible for the shooting.
Investigators discovered evidence of discussions regarding a "drop point" for the rifle and bullet engravings in Discord messages. The weapon was described as a bolt-action rifle covered with a dark colored towel.
One of the shell casings recovered at the scene contained the message "Hey Fascist, Catch." Other bullets had the engravings stating, "Notices bulges. OWO What's This?", "Oh, Bella, ciao, bella, ciao, bella ciao" and another that said "If you read this, you are gay LMAO".
Kash Patel, Director of the FBI, stated, "This is what happens when you let good cops be cops." Patel confirmed that the suspect was arrested within 33 hours of the incident.
The investigation generated over 11,000 leads. Patel indicated that all leads will be followed up on as the case proceeds.
