Accidental Fire at Delmar Duplex Displaces Four

Wicomico County, MD - A fire occurred at a two-story wood-framed duplex located in the 8900 block of Executive Club Drive in Delmar, Wicomico County, Maryland on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. The incident was reported at 12:04 p.m.

The Delmar Volunteer Fire Department responded as the primary agency. A total of 25 firefighters were on the scene. It was a one-alarm fire that was brought under control in about 10 minutes.

The fire originated in the interior of a garage. It was discovered by an occupant of the residence. A smoke alarm was present and activated during the incident. The area where the fire started was not protected by a sprinkler system.

Preliminary investigations determined the cause of the fire was accidental. It resulted from the improper disposal of pellet stove ash.

Four individuals were displaced as a result of the incident. The estimated loss is $4,000 for the structure and $1,000 for the contents (Estimated by State Fire Marshall's Office).
