The Fruitland Volunteer Fire Company responded to the single-alarm fire. A total of 20 firefighters were dispatched to the location. The fire was brought under control in 45 minutes.

The fire was initially discovered by the property owner. It originated on the rear exterior of the 24-foot by 24-foot two-story garage. A preliminary investigation determined the fire was accidental.

The occupant had been burning tree limbs and brush behind the garage. The fire was left unattended briefly, which allowed it to spread across natural cover and into the structure.
