Milton, Delaware - The Delaware State Police are currently investigating an armed robbery that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, June 28, 2025.

At approximately 1:56 a.m., a preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was driving on Burton Road, near Sand Hill Road in Milton, Delaware, when an unknown vehicle flashed red and white lights behind them.

Believing it may be a legitimate stop, the victim pulled over. The victim was then approached by two masked male suspects wearing vests marked "ICE."

One suspect, armed with a knife, forcibly removed the victim from the vehicle, while the second suspect, armed with a firearm, pointed the weapon at the victim.

The suspect with the knife pressed the weapon against the victim's side and stole their wallet. Subsequently, the victim was struck in the face by the suspect.

The suspects fled the scene in their vehicle with an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim sustained facial injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspects are described as two unidentified males wearing masks and dark-colored clothing, who were impersonating law enforcement officers. No surveillance video or images are available.

Public Safety Advisory

The Delaware State Police cautions residents against individuals impersonating law enforcement officers, as this behavior undermines public trust and poses significant risks.

To increase safety during traffic stops, the following tips are recommended:

  • Activate your hazard lights and pull over in a well-lit, populated area if possible. Law enforcement officers understand the need for public safety.
  • Look for official uniforms, department jackets, and police-issued equipment. Genuine police vehicles are typically marked, with built-in emergency lights, not temporary light attachments.
  • If approached by a plainclothes officer, request official identification and badge credentials. Call 911 to verify their identity if uncertain.
  • Observe their conduct. Most officers will provide a reason for the stop and request standard documentation like a driver's license, registration, and insurance. Be cautious if they immediately ask you to exit the vehicle without explanation.
  • Follow your instincts. If uncertain or feeling unsafe, call 911 and remain on the line while driving to the nearest police station.

Detectives from the Delaware State Police Troop 4 Criminal Investigations Unit continue to investigate this case. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Detective C. Simpson at (302) 752-3855.
