Arrest Made in Connection with Juneteenth Shooting

Milford, DE - Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that occurred during Juneteenth celebrations in Milford, Delaware.


Following an extensive investigation, Law Enforcement Officers identified Jashaun Johnson, 23, of Selbyville, Delaware, as the prime suspect.


On June 21, 2025, an arrest warrant was obtained for Johnson in relation to the shooting. With assistance from the U.S. Marshal's First State Fugitive Task Force, Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT), and Smyrna Police Department, Johnson was apprehended without incident on July 9, 2025, in Smyrna, Delaware.


Johnson now faces the following charges:

  • Attempted Murder in the First Degree (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief Over $1,000


Following his arrest, Johnson underwent a presentment in the Justice of the Peace Court 2. He has been committed to the Department of Correction with bail set at $551,000 cash. Additionally, a no-contact order has been issued between Johnson and the victim.


Johnson is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing at the Kent County Court of Common Pleas on a yet-to-be-determined date.
