Attempted Vehicle Theft Under Investigation on Choptank Avenue

Cambridge, MD - Cambridge Police Department officers responded to the 200 block of Choptank Avenue on January 4, 2026 for a report of an attempted vehicle theft. The response was initiated at approximately 3:28 a.m. following a report of a subject entering a vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers located a burgundy 2018 Kia Sorento. The vehicle's steering column had been ripped out. Preliminary findings suggest the subject was attempting to take the vehicle and the reason for the busted steering column.

Officers made contact with a witness at the scene. The suspect was described as a male subject, approximately 16 to 18 years of age.

This investigation is ongoing. The Cambridge Police Department requests that members of the community provide any relevant information.
