The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) is reminding residents to report any sightings of fish kills in the state's waters. MDE is primarily responsible for investigating incidents involving dead or distressed fish and works to identify potential causes.

To assist in these investigations, the public is encouraged to file reports as soon as a fish kill is observed. Reports can be made directly to the MDE during business hours at 800-285-8195.

For incidents occurring at night or on weekends, residents should contact the Maryland Department of Emergency Management (MEMA) at 866-633-4686.

Additional information on how fish kills are managed, along with resources for the public, can be found on the Maryland Department of the Environment's fish kill webpage.
