Fruitland, MD - On Monday, October 16, 2023, Eastern Shore Undercover became aware of an incident that took place at Bennett Middle School, where a teacher was violently attacked and sent to a local hospital.

Earlier today, the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office provided us with an update on the actual incident.

On Monday, October 16, 2023, a Deputy from the School Resource Division was dispatched to a classroom in Bennett Middle School for an assault.  The investigation revealed that a 13-year-old student assaulted a classmate (victim 1).  

A teacher attempted to stop the 13-year-old aggressor from assaulting his classmate.  At that time, the aggressor then assaulted the teacher (victim 2) by grabbing her around the neck and strangling her, obstructing her breathing during the assault.  

The aggressor struck another teacher (victim #3) when she tried to pull the assailant off victim #2.  The aggressor was eventually pulled off of victim #2.  

EMS responded to the scene and transported victim #2, a teacher, to Tidal Health for her injuries.

The 13-year-old aggressor was transported to the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office.  A Juvenile Referral was completed by the investigating Deputy and forwarded to The Department of Juvenile Services (DJS). 

The Department of Juvenile Services released the juvenile to his parent on electronic monitoring pending his Juvenile Court appearance.

The name of the 13-year-old aggressor cannot be released due to his age.  The suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
