BERLIN MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING POLICE PURSUIT IN WORCESTER COUNTY
Berlin, MD - The Berlin Police Department has arrested a suspect following a high-speed chase that ended with a foot pursuit in Worcester County, Maryland.
Just after midnight on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, authorities from the Berlin Police Department spotted a vehicle seemingly breaking the speed limit in the vicinity of Route 50 and Route 346. Speed readings indicated the vehicle was traveling at a dangerous 120 MPH, prompting officers to initiate a traffic stop.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle using their emergency equipment, lights, and sirens. However, the driver ignored the officers' signals and engaged in a pursuit through the Town of Berlin. The pursuit ended when the vehicle veered off the roadway near Ironshire Station Road and Libertytown Road in Worcester County, Maryland.
The driver, identified as Fredrick Lewis Strobel III, a Berlin resident, abandoned the vehicle, attempting to evade arrest by running into a nearby wooded area. A search was initiated, and Strobel was eventually found hiding within the wooded region, where he was arrested.
The pursuit and subsequent arrest of Strobel were a collective effort, with the Berlin Police Department receiving invaluable assistance from multiple other agencies, including the Maryland State Police, Worcester County Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police Aviation, and Pocomoke City Police Department.
Strobel faces numerous charges, ranging from firearms infractions and CDS violations to resisting arrest and several traffic violations. He is presently being held without bail at the Worcester County Detention Center.
