BRIDGEVILLE MAN ARRESTED BY DELAWARE STATE POLICE FOR HIS SIXTH DUI

Bridgeville, DE - Delaware State Police have arrested Cristian Velasquez, a 29-year-old resident of Bridgeville, Delaware, for his sixth felony DUI offense, along with several other felony charges. The arrest followed a traffic stop in the early hours of May 31, 2025, approximately 8:00 AM.


According to the police report, an officer on patrol observed a Dodge Ram pickup truck exceeding the speed limit on Coverdale Road near Nat Turner Street. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver, identified as Cristian Velasquez, exhibited clear signs of impairment.


Velasquez refused to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, resulting in his arrest without any resistance. During the search, officers found a folding knife in his possession.


Further investigation revealed that Velasquez had a history of five previous DUI-related convictions and that his driver's license was currently suspended. After being transported to Troop 5, he was officially charged with the offenses.


He was subsequently arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and is now in custody at Sussex Correctional Institution, where his bail is set at a secured bond of $15,150.


Velasquez was formally charged with the following:

  • 6th Offense DUI (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited Prior Violent Crime (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Driving while Suspended or Revoked
  • Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession
  • Speeding
