Cambridge, MD - A fire broke out early Monday morning at a home on the 1300 block of Stone Boundary Road in Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland. The incident occurred at approximately 2:08 AM on January 12, 2026, involving a one-story, wood-framed single-family dwelling.

Responding to the scene, the Rescue Fire Company of Cambridge deployed 35 firefighters who brought the blaze under control within 25 minutes. The fire originated in the dining room and has been preliminarily determined to be accidental, caused by lightweight combustible materials placed too close to a baseboard heater.

The occupant discovered the fire and managed to escape through a bedroom window with her dog, assisted by the first officers arriving from the Cambridge Police Department.

Deputy State Fire Marshals later located a pet cat alive inside the home and reunited it with the family.

The fire resulted in an estimated $100,000 in total damages, including $75,000 to the structure and $25,000 to contents. These estimates are on behalf of the State Fire Marshall's Office.

Investigators noted that neither smoke alarms nor fire sprinklers were present in the home.

One resident has been displaced as a result of the incident.
