CAMBRIDGE, MD -Cambridge Police Department officers arrested a 28-year-old Federalsburg man on multiple charges following a domestic assault investigation that began on September 6, 2025.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of Chestnut Place at approximately 5:46 p.m. after receiving reports of an assault. The victim told police that Tyrone Darnell Wilmer Jr. had attacked them following a confrontation over a backpack found in the residence.

According to the victim's account, Wilmer knocked them to the ground and dragged them by their hair down a hallway into a bathroom. Wilmer then poured detergent on the backpack before pushing the victim against a wall with enough force to break a towel bar.

The assault escalated when Wilmer allegedly held the victim against the wall while strangling them. The victim reported losing consciousness during the attack. When the victim called for help, another person intervened and pulled Wilmer away.

The situation became more dangerous when Wilmer allegedly pulled out a knife and held it to the victim's throat. The person who came to assist was able to knock the weapon from Wilmer's hand, allowing the victim to escape to a neighbor's home and call for help.

Officers documented injuries on the victim that were consistent with the reported assault. The residence showed signs of a struggle with items in disarray throughout the home.

Wilmer had left the scene with other individuals, including children, before officers arrived. Cambridge Police contacted the Caroline County Sheriff's Office, who located the children and other subjects at a Federalsburg, Maryland location.

All individuals were found to be safe, but Wilmer was not at the location.

The District Court Commissioner issued an arrest warrant for Wilmer based on the charges filed by Cambridge Police Officers.

On September 7 at approximately 5:04 p.m., Wilmer turned himself in to the Cambridge Police Department.

Wilmer was transported to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections and is being held without bond.

He faces six charges including first-degree assault, second-degree assault, false imprisonment, dangerous weapon with intent to injure, carrying a concealed dangerous weapon, and theft under $100.
