Cambridge Man Arrested Following Foot Pursuit
Dorchester County, MD - On January 13, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Cambridge Police Department officers responded to a disturbance call on the 400 block of Willis Street.
Upon arrival, officers were informed that a suspect had fled the residence with taken items. The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Vernel Rooservelt McFarland 3rd of Cambridge, Maryland. Reports indicated that McFarland might possess a handgun.
Officers searched the surrounding area and located McFarland on the 600 block of Greenwood Avenue. When officers attempted to make contact, the suspect fled on foot toward the 1000 block of Cosby Avenue.
McFarland disregarded verbal commands from the pursuing officers. He subsequently entered a store located at 1022 Cosby Avenue, where he was apprehended without incident. A search revealed no firearm on his person.
McFarland was transported to the Cambridge Police Department for processing and was later released on personal recognizance. He has been charged with Failure to Obey Lawful Order, Trespassing Private Property, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Arrest.
