Cambridge Man Arrested for Stealing Boxes of Candy

Cambridge, MD - On August 4, 2025, at approximately 8:27 a.m., officers from the Cambridge Police Department (CPD) responded to a report of theft at a WaWa Store. Management informed officers that a subject, identified as Alan Richard Wessells Jr., 44, of Cambridge, Maryland, had taken boxes of candy from the store without making a payment.


Later, at approximately 8:44 a.m., officers located Wessells in the area of Academy Street and Cedar Street in Cambridge, Maryland. He was found carrying the stolen boxes of candy. Wessells was taken into custody at the scene.


During a search following the arrest, officers discovered a crack pipe with residue and a syringe containing heroin in Wessells' possession. He was transported to the CPD for processing and subsequently released on a $5,000 bond.


Wessells has been charged with the following offenses:


  • Burglary in the 4th Degree
  • Theft of property valued between $100 and under $1,500
  • Charges of CDS (Controlled Dangerous Substance) Possession Not Cannabis (2 counts)
  • Possession of CDS Paraphernalia (2 counts)
