Cambridge, MD - On February 11, 2026, at approximately 1:47 p.m., officers conducted a patrol check in the 400 block of Dorchester Avenue. During the patrol, a vehicle operator was observed using a cellphone while driving.

Officers initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle did not yield immediately despite the presence of available pull-off areas. The vehicle eventually stopped on Dorchester Avenue near Washington Street.

The driver was identified as 45-year-old Sterling Turhan Perkins of Cambridge, Maryland. A K9 Unit was requested to assist at the scene.

Following the arrival of the K9 Unit, officers instructed Perkins to exit the vehicle. Perkins reportedly became argumentative and initially refused the order to exit.

Upon eventually exiting the vehicle, Perkins allegedly continued to act in a disorderly manner.

The report indicates that he was non-compliant, tensed up, and attempted to pull away from officers.

Perkins was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the department for processing. He was later released on his personal recognizance.

Perkins has been charged with Disorderly Conduct, Failure to Obey, Resisting Arrest, and Driving While on a Handheld Device.
