Cambridge Woman Charged in Vehicle Theft Case

CAMBRIDGE, MD - Cambridge Police Department officers arrested a local woman in connection with a vehicle theft investigation that began in late June of 2025.
Chassidy Dawn Taber, 28, of Cambridge, Maryland, was served with a criminal summons on September 3, 2025, at approximately 4:28 a.m. She faces charges of Motor Vehicle Unlawful Taking and Theft $1,500 to Under $25,000.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on June 30, 2025. Officers responded to the 700 block of Washington Street at approximately 6:29 a.m. following a report of a stolen vehicle. Police were already familiar with the vehicle after conducting a traffic stop earlier in their shift.
The vehicle had been towed during that initial stop.
During the earlier traffic stop, the vehicle had not yet been reported stolen. Taber told officers "it was her child's father's vehicle" when questioned about the car.
Officers later contacted the vehicle owner upon arriving at the Washington Street location. The owner confirmed that Taber was the mother of his child and stated that she had taken the vehicle without his permission.
Following their investigation, Cambridge Police Department officers applied for charges against Taber. The case was processed over a two-month period before the criminal summons was served in early September.
