DELAWARE - The Court of Chancery announced the appointment of Caroline Brittingham as Magistrate in Chancery, effective September 8, 2025. Brittingham will handle cases throughout Delaware while maintaining her primary chambers at the Court of Chancery Courthouse in Georgetown.

Brittingham brings extensive legal experience to her new role. She graduated from Cape Henlopen High School before earning her undergraduate degree from James Madison University and her law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law. Following graduation, she served as a clerk for the Honorable M. Jane Brady of the Superior Court in New Castle County.

The new magistrate has dedicated over 12 years to public service with the Delaware Department of Justice. She began her prosecutorial career in 2013 and has handled cases across multiple court systems throughout Delaware, including Superior Court, Court of Common Pleas, Family Court, and Justice of the Peace Court.

Brittingham's career progression included serving as Head of the Misdemeanor Trial Unit in Sussex County. In January 2022, she joined the newly established Human Trafficking Unit at its inception. Her work in this specialized unit involved prosecution, awareness campaigns, outreach programs, and legislative initiatives to combat human trafficking in Delaware.

Her involvement in anti-trafficking efforts extended beyond prosecution. Brittingham served as the Department of Justice's appointed representative on the Delaware Anti-Trafficking Action Council (DATAC).

She held multiple leadership positions within the organization, including Vice-Chair of the Council, Executive Committee Member, and Co-Chair of the Legislative Subcommittee. She also contributed her expertise as a member of the Wilmington University Human Trafficking Advisory Board.

The magistrate position represents one of two newly funded roles created to assist the Court of Chancery with its expanding caseload. Chancellor Kathaleen St. J. McCormick welcomed the appointment, stating, "Magistrate Brittingham has devoted her distinguished career to serving the State of Delaware. We are very lucky that she is willing to lend her talents to the Court of Chancery in this next phase. I look forward to working with her."
