Salisbury, MD - The City of Salisbury has announced that paving work on Carroll Street, between US Route 13 and Circle Avenue, will begin on Monday, August 18. The project is expected to be completed by Friday, August 22, barring any weather delays.

Project Overview

The Carroll Street paving project will involve the following phases:

  • Milling: Scheduled to take place over the first two days of construction.
  • Paving: To follow for two days, creating a smooth and durable road surface.
  • Temporary Striping: To be applied daily to ensure traffic safety during construction.
  • Permanent Striping: Final markings will be installed on the last day of the project.

Flaggers will be present daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM to help direct traffic through the construction zone.

While Carroll Street will remain open, drivers should anticipate some delays. The nearby intersection at West Vine Street and Locust at Waverly will not be impacted and will remain operational throughout the project.

Project Delays Addressed

This project, originally scheduled for earlier this summer, experienced delays to ensure all planning and execution details were thoroughly addressed. Mayor Randy Taylor emphasized the significance of the project, stating, "We are committed to delivering a result that benefits the entire community for years to come." Mayor Taylor went on to explain, "We are doing a full overlay and repaint-it will look great!"

The project's contractor has reaffirmed their understanding of its importance and pledged to complete the work in a timely and efficient manner.

Upgraded Features for Carroll Street

Upon completion, Carroll Street will include several major improvements:

  • Enhanced Traffic Lanes: Two vehicle lanes in each direction for smoother traffic flow.
  • Bike Lanes: Designated lanes for both eastbound and westbound cyclists, separated from vehicle lanes for added safety.
  • Improved Pedestrian Crossings: High-visibility crosswalks will ensure safer, more accessible movement for all pedestrians.

Timeline Alignment with Community Events

The City is pleased to confirm that these upgrades will be finished ahead of the Maryland Folk Festival, scheduled from September 19-21 in Downtown Salisbury. The enhanced road infrastructure will support increased traffic during this major community event.

The City of Salisbury thanks residents and visitors for their patience and cooperation as these vital infrastructure improvements are completed.
