Charges Filed in Accidental Shooting of 4-Year old Child in Cordova

Cordova, MD - Two individuals have been charged following an accidental shooting incident in Cordova, Maryland. The Talbot County Sheriff's Office announced charges against Jody D. Jackson and Brianna K. Boyle.

Both 26-year-olds face counts of Reckless Endangerment and Firearms Access to Minors.

The charges stem from an incident on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Deputies responded to the 30000 block of Skipton Cordova Road at approximately 2:20 p.m.

They arrived to find a young child with a suspected gunshot wound. A preliminary investigation showed that a 2-year-old child accessed a firearm. The firearm discharged and struck a 4-year-old sibling in the leg.

Talbot County paramedics provided immediate treatment at the scene. The Maryland State Police Aviation Division transported the injured child to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore as a precaution.

However, a medical evaluation could not definitively determine if the injury resulted from gunfire.

Investigators consulted with the Talbot County State's Attorney's Office before submitting an application for charges. A court commissioner issued criminal summonses for Jackson and Boyle.

The criminal summons were served on January 17, 2026. Both individuals were subsequently released on their signatures.
