Chester Woman Arrested for Theft of a Firearm and Obstruction
Queen Anne's County, MD - On February 11, 2026, deputies from the Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in Chester, Maryland, regarding a stolen firearm. The victim reported that he had sought medical care the previous evening and when he returned home, he discovered his handgun was missing.
The victim identified a family member, Diane Zimmerman, 62, of Chester, Maryland, as a suspect. He stated that Zimmerman had previously taken his gun without permission.
Deputies located Zimmerman nearby and made contact with her. She initially denied taking the firearm but then claimed she had taken it and thrown it into the bay.
Later, she admitted to lying but refused to disclose the gun's location.
Zimmerman was placed under arrest and transported to the Sheriff's Office for processing.
Further investigation revealed that the firearm was located in a neighbor's home. Deputies responded to the residence and recovered the weapon.
Zimmerman has been charged with False Statement to Officer, Theft $100 to under $1,500, and Obstructing and Hindering a Police Officer.
